The growth of home rehabilitation
Starting in 2022 as a mobile physiotherapy service, Range Rehab set out to bring physiotherapy to the patient's door. Rehab-in-the-home is fast becoming the preferred alternative to hospital-based rehabilitation after surgery or a hospital admission.
Research across Canada, Australia, England, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the United States consistently shows in-home rehabilitation leads to equal or improved functional outcomes. Home is also where most patients would rather recover โ the evidence points to equal or greater quality-of-life improvements, shorter acute-care stays, lower healthcare costs, and reduced risk of hospital readmission compared with hospital-based rehab.
Home rehabilitation has seen a real jump in uptake since the COVID-19 pandemic, with patients feeling safer being treated at home. Since 2020, an estimated 16,413 physiotherapy services have been completed in a patient's home following a hospital admission.
